“Travel is the Only Thing You Buy That Makes You Richer.”
After 5 nights in Santorini we were off to Mykonos. From Santorini you can get to Mykonos by ferry (about 3 hours) or by plane (25 minutes). We chose to fly because I don’t do well on ferries and I didn’t want to waste precious beach time. We were lucky that a flight was available since flights are limited to certain week days. After the short jump to Mykonos, the minute you arrive you can feel the buzz in the air. You can also feel the wind, which can be strong at times as you can tell by the pictures with my hair and clothes blowing everywhere…LOL. It was safe to just tie my hair back.
Mykonos is an amazing place with so much to see and do. The beaches were beyond stunning. I am such a beach girl and absolutely love turquoise water that is so clear you even see what color nail polish you’re wearing. We stayed at Mykonos Blu, which is set on one of the best beaches in Mykonos, Psarou Beach. It also shares the same beach with the famous restaurant/beach club, Nammos. The beach here is so calm and exquisite! We enjoyed swimming everyday, it was so relaxing and refreshing. Mykonos Blu is very unique being that it is one of the only hotels on the island that has a beach. Most of the other amazing hotels are in town.
The town of Mykonos is so quaint and beautiful with everything being blue and white. We would take walks through the town and especially loved, Little Venice. We did some shopping at the cutest stores and picked up many evil eye jewelry pieces (my favorite). In Greece they are actually referred to as Good Luck eyes. The highlight was shopping on my birthday and going to Linea Piu, a store that carried mostly Chanel. We bought this beauty there…I LOVE her!! There were so many amazing cafes, where we sat and enjoyed our favorite Espresso Freddo, which is whipped espresso over ice, and also enjoyed some people watching. In town is where you will see the famous Mykonos windmills. I highly recommend checking out Apriati, a store which carries amazing jewelry, as well as just getting lost in town. This is actually easier then you anticipate since literally every street looks identical (narrow, cobblestone with white walls and blue doors everywhere).
Mykonos has very limited taxi service, which I found to be the hardest part about getting around but it didn’t matter since we were never in a hurry. I suggest renting a car or scooter to explore the island if you are feeling adventurous.
Most of the bars and restaurants are in Mykonos town and they are so delicious. I seriously didn’t eat a bad meal in all of Greece. The ingredients are so fresh and they use the finest Olive Oil.
Restaurants we ate at and recommend:
- Nammos- go there for a late lunch around 3. The food is excellent and get ready for a party because this place turns it up around 5pm.
- Kiki’s- go there for lunch but be prepared to wait in line for an hour. We didn’t end up going here because it was a hike to get to and we wanted to enjoy the beach.
- Nobu in the Belvedere Hotel- this place is perfect for sunset drinks and dinner.
- Interni– Chicest restaurant on the island. It has a lively bar as well so it draws a younger, fashionable crowd.
- Remezzo– food and views were both amazing here
- Caprice Bar– go there for drinks. This place is a hotspot in Mykonos
